The Romanian Peasant's Museum

Bucharest 3 Dimitrievici Kiseleff Blvd.

Phone: 021 312 98 75.

In 1912, on the premises of the former Mint Building and of the Mavrogheni Palace was laid the cornerstone of the future "Hightway Museum" - meant to "honour our ancestor's art under such a shelter that is worthy of its significance", as it had been written in the document signed by King Carol I and burried under the building foundations.

The Museum of the Romanian Peasant -  the name of which has been chosen on purpose - considers it useful to talk about the image of the peasant and of his universe. The history of the museum covers almost a century of restlessness, bringing together times of international praising with moments of obstruction and anxiety related to the very situation in the country.

The indisputable wealth of the museum consists of 100.000 objects plus 3.000 glass negatives (old ethnographic photography) patrimony, by its impressive archive of manuscripts and phono documents.
